The underlying principle of DMT is that body and mind are inseparable.
All our experiences are stored in the body memory. Body movement reflects
inner emotional states and that changes in movement behaviour can lead
to changes in the psyche. Every individual is capable of being creative
and the creative process in itself is healing.
Dance Movement Therapy lays emphasis on self-expression and self-exploration,
it provides a frame work for building interpersonal relationship, body
image and personality development.
Anusha has trained as a dance movement therapist from University of Hertfordshire. Essay on her work on using DMT in the South Asian community has been published in "Art Therapists, Refugees and Migrants. Reaching Across Borders", edited dy Ditty Doctor, published by Jessica Kingsley Publisher.
DMT is of immense value in working with communities and individuals where language is a barrier to exploring and dealing with emotional and cultural issues. Many migrant communities in the UK have a tradition of dance with also had a theraputic role. Beeja can provide workshops and residencies using DMT.
